Some visitors mention that during peak hours—especially Friday and Saturday nights—it can get quite busy and noisy, which may detract from a relaxed dining experience. For those looking for a quieter meal, visiting during lunch hours or on a Sunday evening might be a better option.
A few reviews mention that the menu could have more variety, particularly for vegetarian and vegan options, though the current selections are generally perceived as high quality. Additionally, finding a spot in the main dining area can be challenging during popular events, particularly quiz nights, so planning ahead is key.
We were staying not too far from The Red Lion, so we thought we would pop in for a Sunday Roast dinner with the kids. The service was good, friendly and fast. The food came out very hot and quick, the portion size was very generous, and very well made. Overall great pub, great service, friendly, and reasonably priced.
Wednesday night is pie night at the Red Lion, and it’s well worth a visit! The homemade pies are excellent – we tried two steak & ale and one three-cheese, leek, and potato, all delicious served with either chips or mash, garden or mushy peas. At just £12 for a pie and a pint, it’s fantastic value. The staff are friendly and welcoming, making it a great evening overall.
We booked the function room for a birthday celebration and we cannot fault the service. It is a free room with a £75 deposit which can then be used towards food or drink, we were allowed to come in and decorate on the day from 12pm and we had it for the full 12 hours they were open. Staff were helpful and always around to answer any questions, if you need somewhere for an event I would definitely recommend here.
We booked the function room upstairs for a hen party and it was perfect! The perfect size for what we needed and the staff were so helpful. We booked grazing boards for the event with the chef and they were absolutely brilliant. Couldn't recommend them more. The drinks from downstairs were delicious and well priced. Can't thank you all enough.
Excellent service and food. The jacket potato with tuna mayo was enormous, salad was really fresh and varied. Homemade coleslaw was delicious.
Decent night time spot but also good for afternoon drinking and eating. Family friendly in the daytime. Great atmosphere later in the evening at weekends.
